The Benefits of Jojoba Oil For Skin and Hair

If I had to chose a favorite oil, that would have to be the oil extracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant (Simmondsia chinensis). You know that loyal friend that always shows up whether to laugh or just sit and cry with you, that has been jojoba oil (pronounced ho-HO-ba) for me.  This shrub is native to North and South American, like in the Sonoran Desert of California. However, this evergreen shrub is cultivated elsewhere in countries like Australia, Argentina, Egypt and Tunisia.

I have been using jojoba oil religiously for over 20+ years as a face and scalp moisturizer. I started using this oil on my hair when I had locs which I wore for 11+ years. I began using jojoba oil on my scalp and locs because I needed a moisturizer that wouldn't clog my pores and one that wouldn't attract build up on my twisted strands.

Here is an old pic. of me with my locs back in 2014. I had just given them a cut from my lower back length to about shoulder length. In this pic. I am making soap not long after I had started my skin and hair care business, Enid b.

I have so much confidence in the healing and nourishing properties of this oil that when I set out to make an oil serum to help combat acne breakouts, I turned to my trusted friend to create my Glowing Skin Herbal Face Oil. I needed an oil that wouldn't cause build up in the pores and that would quickly carry the healing properties of the herbs that I had infused, deep within our largest organ, our skin. I wanted an oil, along with my carefully selected herbs that would help to aid in the healing of the acne wounds and scars and that helped to reduce the redness caused by inflammation. This is what I was able to achieve based on my results and testimonials from my customers, thanks to jojoba oil.

The jojoba fruit and oil have been well respected in medicinal folklore. Native Americans for centuries have used it as a medicine and for food.   Being used in the treatment of a variety of ailments like minor wounds, skin lesions, sore throat, improving liver function, various other skin and scalp disorders and for promoting hair growth.  It has a wide variety of benefits to human kind that it is not only accessed via cosmetics, but in pharmaceuticals, as a lubricant and even for the replacement of sperm whale oil in the manufacturing of waxes, resins and detergents.

Here is a chart that I created breaking down just some of the skin and hair care benefits of jojoba oil.
